Leah's Highlights

Who are you? Tell us a little about yourself? Maybe something that would surprise us :)

I’m Leah, that’s me! Born and raised in Houston, I’ve been a nurse going on 3 years now (I know, it’s crazy, like the time has flown), and Cypress has been home for 15 years. One thing surprising about me is when I was 11 years old, I went camping with my youth club to Yellowstone Nat’l Park. One morning, I woke up to find a moose munching grass right behind the tent, I shrieked loudly and the moose stared at me the whole time., plus it sniffed toward my nose (I was inside the tent, of course).

How long have you been a Behemoth member and how did you hear about us?

I’ve been here for 2 years, and I actually was looking for a gym to join through Google and that’s when I found Behemoth. Not knowing it was literally down the road from my house, so I was like “Alright cool, I’ll join.”

What are some of your proudest accomplishments since starting with us? (this can be physical, mental, emotional, don’t just think inside the gym, this can be anything you truly feel great about!)

Not only have I felt stronger physically, but also I’ve felt the same way mentally. I have struggled with anxiety for years, and since joining, I feel I have a better outlook on life: especially getting through the day knowing that things will be okay. I feel more energized and I’m able to focus on other things throughout my day once I get a workout in. Physically, I feel a new me: working in the nursing field, I see a lot of patients at their wits end with their health problems & I knew right away that I didn’t want to be in that position, so I made sure that I to turn my life around, and jump back into the fitness realm.

Talk a little bit about your journey, who were you or what were you struggling with before starting with Behemoth and who are you now since being a part of this gym culture and community?

Shortly before joining Behemoth, I went to my doctor for a routine checkup only to find out that I was prediabetic & anemic. At only 23 (I know, shocking, right?) I was going through a lot with work (through the pandemic) and other things to where my health took a huge backseat. When I found out about all those things, a light bulb came on and told me to turn around and take care of myself. Now, I feel healthier than ever and more responsible for implementing my health & well being first.

What is your favorite part about Behemoth and what keeps you coming back?

It feels like family the first day you walk in, and I’m usually one to shy away and not put myself out there. That feeling faded quickly once I joined Behemoth: everyone knows everyone, like long lost relatives coming together for a reunion.

What is one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out with Behemoth or maybe hesitant in starting out?

It takes time to get where you want to, physically. Go at your own pace, everyone’s different: but at the end of the day, it’s all about where YOU want to be, not anyone else.
