Who are you? Tell us a little about yourself or something that would surprise us.

I’m a native Houstonian and a grandmother to 3 precious kiddos. I’ve been a widow for 5 ½ years and my husband’s death taught me not to take life for granted and to live it as fully as possible. That’s another reason I wanted to improve my health and get in the best shape possible. I entered the dating world last May during the pandemic because, you know, why not? Nothing is more attractive than wearing a mask and some social distancing to bring the boys to the yard. I’m also a foster mom to many dogs with a rescue group, Lola’s Lucky Day, and have 6-8 dogs in my care at any given time. I like to stay busy but multitasking work, gym, grandkids, dogs, friends and attempting to date has been interesting to say the least!

How and when were you introduced to Behemoth?

Two years ago, I was scrolling on FB and came across the Behemoth Transformation challenge. A good friend had been bugging me about going with her to her Crossfit gym but it was too far of a drive and I felt like God was sending me a sign. When I walked into the gym to meet Aja and find out what it entailed, I got really excited watching everyone working out. They were all so engaged and you could feel the positive energy.

What are you most proud of, physically, mentally or both since beginning with us?

I’m most proud of my progression in all the various movements I’ve learned. I’ve increased what I can lift and pushed through when I just wanted to give up. There are so many times I doubt myself and I swear the coaches have a spidey sense and psych me up to try it anyway. It’s such a mental high when I get it done.

What has been your biggest, yet most rewarding obstacle to overcome, whether in the gym or on your health journey to date?

That I haven’t quit! I’ve always been active in some capacity and jumping from a fitness class or exercise craze of the year was always my thing. I never stuck to anything because there was no accountability and I’d get bored. The group classes kept me motivated to keep going and just watching all these men and women push themselves really inspired me to keep pushing myself. I knew I was fully vested when I adjusted my work schedule to accommodate group classes and committed to it.

Why Behemoth?

There are so many reasons why Behemoth would be the right choice for anyone but for me it’s the training, the coaching staff, the one on one with each person, the community, the energy you get just walking in. It’s perplexing how EVERY coach knows EVERYONE by first name. I think they must memorize our names as part of their training. Those reasons and more are why I’ve been able to accomplish some of my fitness goals and I’m not done yet. I have never felt this strong, physically and mentally, in all of my life and I won’t ever look back. I found a home here and I feel blessed to have discovered our gem of a gym!

What next? What are you excited about pursuing here in the future?

Doing a proper push-up and pull-up (unassisted) and box jumps on a 20 inch box.
